FORMER LEEDS MAN COULD STILL BE A VERY USEFUL ADDITION FOR NOTTS COUNTY: OPINION

Notts County’s hopes of avoiding relegation to the National League for the first time in their long history will have massively improved after a very respectful draw against Lincoln City at the weekend.

The Magpies put in a very gutsy performance against top-of-the-table Imps, where a host of new signings helped Neal Ardley’s men secure an invaluable point at the bottom of the League Two table.
County made some impressive signings in January in a desperate attempt to survive the drop to the fifth tier of English football – the likes of Michael Doyle and Jim O’Brien have formed a good understanding in the middle of the the park, whilst Craig Mackail-Smith will give everything up front.

You still feel, though, that the left-back position at Meadow Lane is probably an area that needs strengthening – central midfielder Rob Milsom had to fill in there at the weekend, with Dan Jones and Cedric Evina out with minor injuries.

With the opportunity to sign free agents still available, County should make the most of this. Although Neal Ardley has already said that it is unlikely that he will make any more additions, former Leeds United defender Aidy White could be a very useful option indeed.

The 27-year-old has been without a club since his departure from Barnsley in 2017, but has recently been on trial with League One side Scunthorpe United.

The Irishman would give Notts some real strength in depth with his ability to play anywhere down the left-side, but his primary position at left-back, and he could be a very solid option for the Magpies.

White, who has amassed over 180 career appearances, still has plenty to offer and will be hungry to prove a point having been without a club for so long. If the East Midlands side can get him back up to full fitness, then it could be a very shrewd signing.
