Floyd Mayweather on ‘special’ Tenshin fight: We’re giving people something they’ve never seen

Floyd Mayweather has spoken about his decision to come out to retirement to face Tenshin Nasukawa at Rizin FF 14 on December 31st.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has spoken about his bizarre decision to come out of retirement to face undefeated Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a ‘special’ fight on December 31st, stating the two fighters are “giving people something they have never seen before.”

News broke yesterday that Mayweather would be fighting Nasukawa at Rizin FF 14, on New Year’s Eve at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. A rule-set for the fight as, well as the weight class, has not yet been determined. Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo next to Rizin officials, Mayweather was full of praise for the 20-year-old Nasukawa.

“This kid right here is very special. He’s young, very fast, and he is undefeated. It’s obvious he’s been doing something right to be where he is at, so I’m proud of him. It doesn’t matter where the fight is at, but it’s in a special place. I’m pretty sure he’s going to bring a lot of excitement. I’m going to bring a lot of excitement. And that’s what the people want to see.”

Nasukawa has fought four times in MMA, all taking place at 125-pounds. Mayweather weighed in for his most recent boxing fight against Conor McGregor in August 2017 at 149-pounds, however ‘Money’ feels like the stipulations for the fight and the weight will both soon be finalized.

“The weight class and the rules, we will get that situated within the next couple weeks. This particular bout is a special bout as we are giving people something they have never seen before. The world has never seen Mayweather compete live in Tokyo. When it’s all said and done, it’s about me going out there and displaying my skills against another skillful fighter.”

No other fights have yet been announced for the card taking place on December 31st.
