Manchester United give injury updates on Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba

Man Utd players Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba did not travel to Austria and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update at his press conference.

Anthony Martial did not travel with the Manchester United squad to Austria for their Europa League tie after injuring himself in a collision with the goalposts in the Manchester derby.

Martial scored the winner in Sunday’s Manchester derby to become only the fourth United player in the Premier League era to score home and away against City in a single season, and the 24-year-old was close to another goal early in the second-half when Ederson miscontrolled a back-pass. The Brazilian slid in to clear the ball just before Martial was able to pounce and the Frenchman collided into the post.

Martial was substituted in the 78th minute and Odion Ighalo is set to start for United in their behind-closed-doors match against against LASK Linz in the round-of-16 first leg.

“Anthony hurt himself when he slid into the post,” Solskjaer explained. “So he’s not ready for this game, hopefully he can be ready for Sunday.“

Paul Pogba was not present for the open training session at United’s Carrington complex on Wednesday morning and has been sidelined for 11 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery.

Solskjaer claimed Pogba would be back in full training soon. “Paul is getting closer but today he wasn’t with the team.

“He hasn’t trained fully with the team yet so by next week he’ll be ready.”

Right-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot have not travelled to Linz and Axel Tuanzebe could come in at right-back for his first start since December.

Possible United XI: Romero, Tuanzebe, Bailly, Maguire, Williams, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Mata, Ighalo, Greenwood.
