Wright, 26, who made 44 appearances in all competitions last season and in his second spell with Gills, will stay at Priestfield until at least the summer of 2018.
"There was only one place I wanted to be playing football next season, and that is at Gillingham," Wright told the club's official
website.
"I love it at the club, the manager has been fantastic, the chairman has been spot on with the contract process and I have a special bond with the fans, who have given me great support during my time here."
Wright, who spent three months on loan at Gillingham during the 2008-09 season, signed a permanent deal with the club following his release from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2015.
